Another average episode that is overwhelmed with Clois. I hope the more Darkseid-centric episodes offer some substance to the season because I refuse to get excited about Alexander and get my hopes up for Rosenbaum to return. That leaves the guest stars (that have slowed in recent episodes) to look forward to.
I came to a startling conclusion with this episode ... Smallville has turned into a full-blooded CW style show this season. It felt like I was watching Supernatural-lite and the episode was very much hitting the women 18-34 demo that the CW obsesses about. I think we all know what scene I'm talking about. Didn't realize they could uh emphasize so much at 8 o'clock. Also Clark giving Lois his journal .. awfully sentimental and a little fast? i swear if that network TV rumor of a couple getting engaged is Clark and Lois ...
I think the tightest secret in the world will be whether Michael Rosenbaum returns or not, and whether the show runners want to admit it, this season will pass or fail on that fact. The clone Alexander is proof of that, and they seem to be pushing straight ahead, including his obsession for Clark returning with his memories from Lex. There is irony that Tess has probably not revealed to Clark or Oliver about Alexander, again screwing the pooch like Tess has for 3 seasons now.
I always enjoy themed episodes, and "Harvest" had a great sacrifice/spooky old village aura going on. Another point against Smallville is that Lois and Clark were both particularly preachy in this episode. I think my enjoyment of the show is starting to suffer with such a small cast, I liked the idea of a bigger universe for the show, and with this episode it was non-stop Clark & Lois with brief dashes of Tess that weren't that interesting.
