The last few episodes have been of a more serious tone, focusing on the drama of the series, and I think it was a good time for a more fun episode - the first since the Beauty and the Beast two-parter over a month ago.
Only two episodes left in Season 2 before a long wait for Season 3. While without a doubt this season has been a leap in the level of fun, excitement and entertainment, I have missed Morgana's presence. Outside an episode or two that has been focused on her, she is left to small scenes and lines in all the others. It's almost like she and Gwen have switched roles this season, with Gwen not having much to do in the first season, not it's Morgana's turn and that's unfortunate. I was hoping we'd see more Merlin/Morgana interaction after that early episode with the druids and that has yet to come to fruition. Here's hoping for a good last two episodes to the season!
- Arthur. I think I've come around on
autumnrae89's thinking over the rushed relationship push between Arthur & Merlin, there really has been no inbetween from friends to not being able to be together because of their positions. Since the seasons of a british show are so short, I haven't minded the development to the relationship, but I don't know how long they can keep that up. I know a Season 3 has already been approved and they haven't even finished S2 yet at the time, but if the show continues past into S4 and so on, the starcrossed lovers angle will run out of steam eventually. Of course, they've found ways to get around the fact Arthur seems to have committed his heart to Gwen, enchantments! With only Merlin as the other charismatic male actor, there doesn't seem a lot of opportunities for romance stories if Arthur is stuck in a relationship that he is unable to have. Of course Smallville had Clark crushing on Lana for what, 3 seasons before he met Alicia?
- Merlin. As interesting it was to have him in a romantically focused episode, this was more his bread and butter. Running around trying to fix things for Arthur without letting anyone else in on what's going on, hilarious. Also I liked that he's more candid with Gwen and Arthur, telling them that he knows whats up with both of them, that Arthur loves her and his confidence that the love is okay to have. I am really itching for there to be an Uther/Merlin buddy themed episode where Merlin has to save the day without Uther finding out about his magic.
